If you're a UFC fighter who's unhappy about being pressured into fighting your friends and teammates, don't come crying to B.J. Penn.

The former UFC welterweight and lightweight champion said on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour that it's all part of the game, and fighters should plan accordingly.

"I think teammates have to fight each other, and I knew that the whole time," Penn said. "That's why I would always distance myself. Of course they have to. I always thought it was B.S. that [Josh] Koscheck and [Jon] Fitch wouldn't have to fight, but they can just keep taking turns going for title shots, but they never had to fight each other? That doesn't make sense."

As Penn told Ariel Helwani on Monday's show, that's part of the reason why he chooses to do his training camps in Hawaii, far away from the more established gyms on the mainland where potential future opponents train.

"You know why I never went to any of these places and trained? Because it's the same thing that you see with guys like Rashad Evans and Jon Jones. Now there's a big problem because of that. That's why I always kept my distance from anyone. I had a thousand chances to go train with Jon Fitch, but I knew I'm probably going to fight this guy one day, so let's be friends when we're done fighting."

Of course, Penn's disdain wasn't limited to the teammates who refuse to fight each other. He also had some choice words for the fighters he suspects of using performance-enhancing substances, not that he's ever been shy about calling them out in public.

"I always complained about the steroids and stuff, but really I look back on it and I can beat all these guys even if they're on steroids," Penn said. "I just like to tease them. ...I would love to see more of the guys get busted, but there's really nothing you can do about that stuff, I guess."

I do agree with this.  Especially when you know you'll end up fighting a friend in the same weight class.  Like some say, to be the best you have to train with the best.  To truly test your self than fight the ppl you train with to see who is better.  Training is just training... In the cage its all business.

YES!!! That's the true point, training is just that. I know some guys go tough in training but not full blown kill or be killed mentality I wonder how much shit Nick and Nate talk when they're chilling at home or whatever. "Man did you see me get Jake in that rig-a-ma-roo today? I would have made him poop if we were really in the cage." Blah blah blah... Shit like that lol.

Hahaha Ya no kiddin.  Whats so funny is that I bet they do talk like that to each other once and a while to have some fun.  I mean I know the guys I trained with some times said things not to piss me off but to tease.  I did the same back and it made the training that more fun but in the cage is completely different... I don't think I'd say anything to the other guy even if he was my friend or training partner...lol  I know I tend to smile when I get hit in the face...lol  I have some of my sparing vids on FB and I know Zim has seen some of my sparing vids and Im not sure if saku has...lol

sure add me on FB Caitlin Parker and Drake Nerveza.  Thtey aren't like very impressive but I just like to do it for cardio.  I need to get back down in weight haha 255 isn't the best weight for a 6ft person.  I need to get back to 210.  But with a re injured knee I think I need to get an MRI and see if I tore any of the Tendons in my knee.

It's cool, I'm 5'9 and sitting around 190 but I carry it well. I'm also having a knee issue, I have what looks like two knee caps on my right knee. It's actually pretty freaky. I'll check that stuff out sometime today if I get a chance. I have to work I think.

Awe ya man get that checked out.  I hate injuries.  This is the 3rd time this happened to my knee since last december 2010.  I need to get back down in weight.  A lot of ppl are afraid of me at this weight but Im harmless.  I liked it better when ppl thought I was a weakling at 210...lol I hit 2x harder than at 210.
Same here with the carring the weight well.  A lot of people tell me I only look about 225 or so but I'm usually 25lbs heavier...lol
