Vitor Belfort will be taking a few weeks to rest after being diagnosed with Hepatitis A recently.
The UFC middleweight made the announcement about his contraction of the disease on his personal Twitter account, which his representative Pedro Lima later verified to MMAWeekly.com.

According to Lima, doctors are unsure how Belfort caught Hepatitis A, but the diagnosis will require the Brazilian to stay out of training and rest for the next three to four weeks.

The Mayo Clinic describes Hepatitis A as: A highly contagious liver infection caused by the hepatitis A virus. Hepatitis A is one of several types of hepatitis viruses that cause inflammation that affects your liver’s ability to function.

You’re most likely to contract hepatitis A from contaminated food or water or from close contact with someone who’s already infected. Mild cases of hepatitis A don’t require treatment, and most people who are infected recover completely with no permanent liver damage.

The time off shouldn’t affect Belfort’s scheduled fight in August against Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 133, but he will need to take some time off to get past the initial illness.

Lima also confirmed that Belfort will miss out on his scheduled trip to Canada this week. He was headed to Toronto to support his friend and teammate Randy Couture in his fight against Lyoto Machida at UFC 129.

Belfort will continue to rest and recover at home in Las Vegas for the next few weeks, and then look to head back into training to get ready for his August fight against Akiyama

I keep seeing something about what he would or will do differently against AS. Vitor is too up and down in the cage. Anderson refuses to fight guys his size or caliber so what's the point of even being in that division again lol?

YA no kiddin.  I heard that Vitor said that AS front kick was lucky.  I don't really buy into that...lol If you learn to strike and threw a strike it was meant to damage or hit the other person unless they threw a faint or something...lol  but AS I think just wants to stay on top till he retires.  I wna see him fight Bones!  GSP is too small for him.  If it happened i wouldn't be  @ awe if AS won because he's much taller than GSP and uses his reach very well.  Not taking away from GSP but AS is just taller.  Bones on the other hand is taller than AS and has a longer reach if Im not mistaken.  Would be interesting to see AS fight a guy taller and with longer reach... MUAHAHAHAHAA

I agree about the GSP super fight...I love GSP man but I really think it would be stupid and prove absolutely nothing except that AS can yet again beat a much smaller opponent. I also agree about seeing Bones and Silva, THAT is the LHW fight he needs to take. I also would love to see him get smashed as I have grown quite sick of him and his attitude. I wish he would try to fight Fedor, then we would finally see that he's not the baddest man to ever live.

Ya no kidin.  I really hope to see Fedor at LH.  I think he'd do much better at that weight.  The HWs are getting better and most of these guys have better coordination than many of the other HWs that Fedor has fought.  It was just that type of HW fighters back than.  A new breed of fighters are coming and I'd love to see him adapt with the new breed because his style does fit well.  But he's got to tighten up his striking and I think he'd demolish a lot of guys.  He's already fast and has a great ground game but its up to him if he's going to adapt.  Still, I do respect the guy and can't wait to see him fight again.
On the other hand AS really should fight some bigger guys and see how he fairs against the bigger guys.  In the ufc he's been the bigger guy with pretty much all of his fights.  It's looks impressive that he's been dominant but the ufc isn't really bringin in guys that are his height.  ITs time to move up in weight AS!  C'mon do it for the fans.  Gsp could move up in weight and still fair pretty well.  I mean he's man handled Nate Marquart(sp) and Nate did well in the devision.  GSP should do pretty well IMO.
