http://www.ufc.com/Penn bounces between lightweight and welterweight bouts where he can proudly boast he is the former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion. He steps up once again to challenge another welterweight in a bout that UFC president Dana White said would earn the winner a shot at the welterweight title being held by Georges St. Pierre. Both fighters have earned this right in the past but niether were able to take away the title belonging to the hugely popular Canadian, St. Pierre.
At a UFC media conference earlier this month Jon Fitch told Penny Buffington executive producer of MMA2DAY and other members of the media, “I don’t really want to waste any time thinking about anything other than fighting BJ right now. He’s just a dangerous opponent and he’s been around for so long. If I don’t give him full attention and full focus, you know, that would be a huge mistake.”
Fitch who always fights at welterweight went on to explain, “BJ is dangerous at any weight class. He brings a certain type of skill set that if you make a mistake he’s able to capitalize and put you away and that transfers into any weight class. As a welterweight coming into this fight, though, I have certain advantages with size, but it’s not going to be enough. I’ve had to work a lot on speed and explosiveness and keeping everything tight to make sure there are no mistakes in this fight.”
The co main event of the night Michael Bisping 19-3-0 vs. Jorge Rivera 18-6-0 will be especially entertaining if it can keep up with the youtube videos Rivera and his supporters have been putting out.
