Strikeforce Grand Prix Heavyweight Tournament: Overeem vs Werdum will take place Sat. June 18 in Dallas Texas. The 2 mixed martial artists fought each other back in 2006 while fighting for Pride where Fabrico “Vai Cavalo” Werdum pulled off a kimura, submitting Alistair “Demolition Man” Overeem.

33 year old Werdum will forever go down in history as the only man to have ever submitted Fedor Emelianenko during Strikeforce / M-1 Global – Fedor vs. Werdum which took place almost a year ago. The fight ended a 10 year winning streak for Fedor.  To add insult to injury he has also defeated Fedors brother Aleksander Emelianenko in a past fight.

 Werdum has a fight record of 14 – 4 – 1 (Win – Loss – Draw). While the much more experienced fighter 31 year old Overeem has a record of 34 – 11 – 0 (Win – Loss – Draw) (1 NC).

Overeem is no joke. He is the current Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, DREAM Interim Heavyweight Champion, and K-1 World Grand Prix Champion, and also made history by being the only fighter in combat sports to hold a world title in both MMA and in K-1 kickboxing at the same time. As of November 2010, Overeem is ranked as the #8 best heavyweight mixed martial artist in the world by Sherdog and the #7 best heavyweight in the world by Yahoo! Sports.

Werdum is a two-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion, a two-time ADCC world heavyweight champion and European Jiu-Jitsu champion.

In an interview with MMA2DAY Show Werdum sounded confident about the rematch with Overeem. The match is part of the STRIKEFORCE World Grand Prix — Heavyweight Tournament that began airing on SHOWTIME in Feb.: When the shocking win of Antonio “Big Foot” Silva over Fedor Emelianenko took place. Info can be found @ http://www.strikeforce.com/  http://sports.sho.com/#/mma The June 18 event will also feature Josh Barnett vs. Brett Rogers and the return of female fight sensation Gina Carano.

Fabrico told MMA2Day Show about his initial response to being asked to participate in the tournament, “I was very happy” even though he had no idea who he would be competing against. “I had no idea except for it would be heavyweights.” Werdum admits Overeem is a great striker and a strong guy, he also says “I believe in myself. 100%. I will beat Overeem in the end.”

MMA2DAY Show airs on WSBR 740 AM So. Florida as well as live on the internet @ http://pennyjomma.net/  Sundays @ 7pm eastern time -4pm pacific. MMA2DAY Show is a Sweet Sports & Entertainment Production. Show Hosts: Jim Sweet, Tom Caprio & Rusty Mallett. Executive Producer: Penny Buffington.

I don't doubt he could beat him again.  If it goes to the ground yes.  Standing.... I doubt it.
